Bimba — Ray Optics Sandbox

22 May 2026, 17:47 IST

Bimba is now live on Scinopy. It is an interactive ray optics simulation where you can build and explore optical systems directly in your browser — no install, no plugins.

What you can do:

  • Place laser sources and aim them freely in any direction
  • Add plane mirrors, glass slabs, prisms, thin lenses, and refractive interfaces
  • Watch rays trace and refract in real time as you drag, rotate, or resize any element
  • See image construction lines that show exactly where virtual and real images form
  • Toggle angle labels to read the angle of incidence and refraction at every surface
  • Measure distances with the built-in ruler and overlay a protractor for angular measurements
  • Enable the paraxial engine to overlay ideal thin-lens focal predictions alongside full ray traces
  • Zoom and pan the workspace freely, with a live scale bar for reference
  • Undo and redo any change to the scene
  • Fullscreen mode on desktop; auto-landscape prompt on mobile phones
